About Us

HerTech Foundation is a youth and women-led social enterprise that empowers refugees and vulnerable communities in Uganda through simple, sustainable technologies. Founded to address the urgent need for practical skills and livelihood opportunities in refugee settings, we use hands-on innovation to spark creativity, build resilience, and drive community-led development. Our approach focuses on three core pillars: livelihoods, education, and clean energy access. We support women and youth especially adolescent girls by turning grassroots innovations into income-generating ventures. Through practical training in renewable energy, digital skills, and entrepreneurship, we help participants transform ideas into market-ready products that respond to local challenges. To promote learning and innovation among young people, we have established school-based innovation clubs that provide students with opportunities to explore science, technology, and problem-solving using locally available materials. These clubs encourage critical thinking, boost confidence, and inspire a new generation of community changemakers. We also address environmental and health concerns through our clean cooking initiative, training community members to produce eco-friendly briquettes and improved cookstoves. This work not only reduces dependency on firewood and harmful emissions but also creates new sources of income for households, particularly for women. Our work is rooted in community participation and local leadership. We design our programs alongside the people we serve, ensuring that solutions are culturally appropriate, scalable, and sustainable. As a newly registered but deeply community-engaged organization, HerTech Foundation is committed to unlocking the potential of marginalized groups through accessible technology and inclusive innovation. We believe that when youth and women are given the tools to create, they become powerful agents of change in their communities.

History

Founded in Uganda’s Wakiso district in 2024, the Foundation believes in the power of innovation to address Africa’s most pressing challenges. We work alongside local communities, equipping them with the tools, knowledge, and opportunities to create sustainable livelihoods, mitigate climate impacts, and transform their environments.

At HerTech Foundation, we recognize the vital role that women play in driving climate action and economic change. By providing women with the resources to succeed, we are not only advancing gender equality but also building stronger, more resilient communities. We focus on empowering women in marginalized, rural and refugee settlement areas, helping them become agents of change in environmental conservation and sustainable development.

Our initiatives promote social justice, community development, and climate resilience, ensuring a future where both the planet and its people thrive.
